Diane Krugar looked insanely amazing as she floated down the red carpet in this floaty mint Giambattista Valli gown. She just SCREAMS movie star. Love love love it! This is my favourite look from Day 1 at Cannes.

Eva Longoria in Marchesa, her train is longer than her height. There is too much train for my liking. Did I just say that? what have I become? LOL

Eva Hervezigova looked elegant, not a fan of the chunky gold clutch.

Jane Fonda – this 74 year old woman looks sublime in this Atelier Versace gown. Ahhhmazing!

Jessica Chastain – looks pretty in McQueen, but a little safe.

Tilda Swinton – she is always a little quirky slash “fashion forward”. I actually don’t mind this on her, one of her better looks.

Freida Pinto – I love this colour on her, its pretty but not her best look. The origami style peplum detail reminds me of a scoop of strawberry ice-cream. Sorbet chic? hmmmm.

Here is my re-cap on 2012 Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia (MBFWA).

Attached is a brief Fashion Week wrap up as it appeared in The Wentworth Courier this week, followed by a more detailed summary.

Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia wrapped up last Friday on a high note by street wear fashion label Nana Judy. Pop rock band Amy Meredith serenaded the models as they walked down the catwalk. It was a welcome surprise to see models smile and have fun on the catwalk sporting an extremely wearable collection that featured coloured denim, studded denim shirts and vintage t-shirts. The label also debuted its new women’s wear range (see below).

Over the five days the key trends presented included:

 Prints – There was an abundance of botanical, digital, paisley, stripes and polka dot prints. Worn as separates or even worn head to toe, a printed pant paired with a print top or jacket was a popular combination. For maximum impact prints were even clashed such as at Zimmermann, Camilla and Lisa Ho. Ginger and Smart, Jenny Kee and Gary Bigeni all packed a powerful print punch.

Pastels – Sara Phillips, Magdalena Velevska, Miss Unkon and Bless’ed are the meek all embraced delicate pastel tones of lilac, peach, mint and blue. Bowie presented an almost all white collection and designers presented pastels with a contrasting dash of bold neon brights.pastel image

Shimmer & Shine – There was lots of sequins, embellishment, luxe fabrics, metallic tones, embellished trims and beading. Johanna Johnson, Hardwick, Aurelio Costarella, and Toni Maticevski all showed delectable gowns that screamed red carpet glamour. Michael Lo Sordo and ksubi both used shimmeringmetallic fabrics.

Peplum – Peplum details were seen on dresses, jackets, tops and even swimwear. Ellery, Bec and Bridge, Alice McCall and By Johnny were just some of the peplum pushers.

Key colours – Cobalt blue was used by various designers such as Oroton and Christopher Esber. Citrus yellow and mustard as seen in Magdalena Velevska’s collection, tangerine and pops of neon yellow and pink were the most popular colours. Paddington based Carl Kapp  showed a smorgasbord of eye popping colour in super flattering and wearable styles.

My top 5 Fashion Week 2012 highlights

Year of the blogger – It seemed every second person at Fashion Week this year was a blogger. But I did get to meet two of the world’s top fashion bloggers, Susie Bubble and Bryan Boy. The influential Bryan Boy was bought to Fashion Week by online shoe store StyleTread.

Royal pain in the foot – With fashionistas in sky-high stilettos comes extremely sore feet. Enter Party Feet who cleverly invited anyone with sore soles to tweet about their foot pain and a handsome Prince Harry look-a-like hand delivered some Party feet to the damsel in distress.

Beautiful backdrop – Fashion label Aje presented an exquisite collection titled ‘The Shipwrecked Ball’ at the Paspaley store in Martin Place. The decadent store provided a lavish background and attracted an impressive front row. Guests left with two gift bags, including one from Paspaley.

Best shows – My favourite catwalk shows of the week were Carl Kapp, Zimmermann, Aurelio Costarella, Camilla, Lisa Ho, Nana Judy and Toni Maticevski.  This year some designers chose to present an installation rather than a catwalk show. Jenny Kee’s ‘The Art of the Scarf’ and Jayson Brunsdon’s ‘The lady is a tramp’ installations were my favourite.

Star gazing  –  Best celebrity spots included: Whitney Port who showed her collection ‘Whitney Eve’, Deborah Hutton at the Aurelio Costarella show and Rachel Taylor at ksubi.

Whether you’re dressing for a first date, second date or you’re in a more advanced stage of dating. It’s important to look the part, and create a very special impression on your date. You never get a second chance, to make a first impression. So make it a damn good one.

When dressing for a date, keep these in mind:

It’s important that your outfit, reflects your personality and who you are. Don’t dress ‘how you think they would like you to dress’, as you are not being true to yourself. It’s not a fancy dress occasion, you’re going as yourself.

If you’re nervous or shy, wear a bright bold colour as vibrant colours project confidence.

Dress appropriately for the date, if it’s a picnic then jeans (or shorts) and top or t-shirt, if it’s a formal dinner then a nice dress or skirt and blouse.

If they’re taking you on a “surprise” date, then ask what they’re wearing, so that you’re dressed appropriately.

Lets face it, we do judge people on how they look, its human nature. So make sure you wear something fashionable or your date will think you’re stuck in the past. If you have no idea about fashion, bring a friend shopping or book a stylist (yes you can call me if you like or ask me any style question).

Bad hygiene is an instant deal breaker, ensure you brush your teeth, have nice fresh breath, clean fingers, clean face, no ‘unwanted body hair – such as armpit hair on women and long nose hairs for the fellas. Shave, pluck and wax.

Manners are a must. All the basics must be adhered to: please, thank you’s, don’t talk over your date, don’t ignore them by playing on your mobile phone, slurp your food, don’t be late, don’t chew with your mouth open, talk about your ex (unless they ask you). If you’re driving and picking them up, clean your car. A dirty car, will show them you are a messy person and that you don’t care. Same goes with your house, if they see a messy house, they will take that as a reflection of who you are.

For WOMEN:

Choose an outfit that accentuates your good bits and conceals the bits you don’t like. For example, if you don’t like your bottom half, draw their attention to your top half by wearing brighter colours up top or an amazing piece of bling around your neck.

Dress sexy not slutty. Some women think “he will like it, if I wear a little top, micro mini and fishnets” – WRONG! Most guys are turned on by ‘less is more’. Remember first impressions count, and if you turn up looking like a hussy, you’ll be making the wrong first impression and he’ll only be talking to your bangers all night and not you.

When in doubt about what to wear, call upon the ‘Little Black Dress’ (LBD). You can dress it down, or dress it up depending on the date location. To add some spice to the look, team it up with some sexy colourful heels and matching clutch or some amazing statement jewellery.

Don’t wear too much make up and don’t over-do the perfume.

Nothing can scare a guy off faster than hairy legs, armpits or facial hair (on a woman).

For MEN:

You too can choose an outfit that shows off your best assets. For example, if you’ve been told that you have a great ass, take the compliment and wear some nice fitted jeans. Women love guys with a cute bottom in nicely fitted jeans. If your torso is buff, wear a nice fitted t-shirt or shirt. Don’t bury yourself under layers of oversized clothes. Good tailoring is paramount.

If you have a larger frame, wear clothes that suit your shape. But don’t make the mistake of wearing oversized baggy clothes as this will make you look bigger than you really are.

When in doubt, go for a pair of jeans (ideally dark denim) with a nice black fitted shirt and nice leather shoes. A crisp white t-shirt, worn with jeans and a dark coloured blazer is another winner.

Don’t wear sweatpants, thongs, board shorts or anything too casual. Show her that you have made an effort. Not making an effort will reflect on you.
It’s always better to overdress than under dress.

Make sure you compliment her on how she looks.
Tick off this checklist- clean teeth, fresh breath, clean nails, clean face, deoderised armpits, a splash of aftershave, tidy hair, no long scary nose hairs and no ear wax.

Kate Ritchie – you are in my top 5 best dressed, you look ahhhhhmmmaaazzing!!! This Steven Khalil gown could easily swan down the Oscars red carpet.

Magdalena Rose looks sublimely sensational! OMG!! WOW! This gown is by Perth label Ae’lkemi. Looks like sequins will be a big trend tonight!

Lauren Phillips – looking delicious in the silver sparkly Jayson Brunsdon gown. Work it girl!

A pregnant Ada Nicademu looks gorgeous in elegant deep blue Paolo Sebastian gown. Glowing.

Asher Keddie – looks smoking hot in J’Aton. Love that colour on her. Major amazeballs.

Laura Dundovic – wearing a stunning Matthew Eager gown. She always looks so stunning. Love!

The AWESOME FOURSOME – Channel Seven’s Samantha Armytage, Natalie Barr, Melissa Doyle and Kylie Gillies. All looking simply ravishing! Especially Kylie Gillies, she is having a major fashion moment in her Paolo Sebastian gown – I die!  Paolo Sebastian is one young designer to really watch. His work is amazing. Melissa Doyle wears a striking cobalt blue gown by Steven Khalil who is one of Australia’s best couturiers.

Carrie Bickmore – blonde + red is a magic combination, Carrie looks incredible in his Bowie gown. Totally love that she wore $15 wedges from KMart (after all you can’t even see them).

Esther Anderson – looking lovely in this Grecian gown by Alex Perry

Yumi Stynes – not very appropriate for the logies, perfect for a nightclub though…sorry love!

Jennifer Hawkins – wears a turquoise Toni Maticevski gown, love the contrast heel and clutch. Not sure that i’m digging the shinny fabric.

Megan Gale – also wears Alex Perry, cute Bvlgari clutch. Elegant and safe gown.

Hayley Lewis and Michelle Bridges (in Alex Perry) – less biggest loser and more biggest fashionistas, these ladies look scrumptious especially Michelle.

Kat Stewart – hmmmm, this pains me to say, because I think this dress is J’Aton, who I love! but this just looks a but ill fitted on her. Not loving the mullet hemline and the shoes looks a bit nanna (as opposed to the dress being so fashion forward).

Rebecca Judd – sorry for being honest, but this is not her best look. The bottom of the dress looks messy bordering on 80′s bridesmaid. Looks like old cheap plastic shopping bags have been pinned to the bottom of her gown.

Chrissie Swan – love the colour on her, this fabric is (really) hard to wear (not very forgiving). Loving it all apart from the sleeves, this would have looked much better with a short or capped sleeve.

Natarsha Belling – WOW!!! WOW!! WOW!! Top 5 best dressed of the night. Classic, elegant and glamorous! This is how you rock a red carpet.

Susie Elelman – looks divine, love that statement necklace. No shock frock from her this year. Love that deep sexy neckline!

Delta Goodrem – I think I am in love. WOWZERS! It’s floaty, fresh, whimsical and I love that chain belt detail. Gown by Ralph Lauren.

Lisa Wilkinson – hmmm not loving the green with her skin tone and the earrings are way to busy for a halter neckline. The dress may be Ellie Saab, but it just ain’t doing her body any favours, too much excess fabric.

Jessinta Camphell – amazing Burberry gown however the (safe) colour makes me yawn….YAWN….. Love the hair, makeup and accessories.

Livinia Nixon – this could have been amazing but it looks ill fitted and makes her look bulky up top. Would have been much better without the 2 floaty panels that fall from her shoulder.

Sonia Krugar – love the very on-trend peplum style dress and metallic belt. Very chic. Dress by Manning Cartell.

Guy Sebastian – gets in my top 3 best dressed blokes. Love the midnight blue suit and pocket hankerchief.

1) I begin with a lovely coffee/tea and chat about your wardrobe situation and discuss body shapes and help my client work out their body shape and how to dress for their shape and build the perfect wardrobe. Essentially this is the “theory”.
2) We then put the “theory” into practice and we hit the shops, with no pressure to buy anything. It’s all about getting out of the comfort zone and learning to dress for your body shape.
3) I love to ensure that my clients walk away feeling empowered, educated and see fashion in a fun new way. So that next time they shop, they find it easier and fun because they will know exactly what to look for. The session is a mix of personal styling and personal shopping, a minimum 2 hour package is required.

1) THE MINI MAKEOVER
If you would like to pamper a loved one with that ‘before’ and ‘after’ experience, treat them to a complete makeover package which includes: morning/afternoon tea with me, an initial wardrobe and body shape consultation, a 1.5 hour style session, hair, makeup and before and after photos to capture the experience. All for a special price of $500 (usually worth $900). This is available at Westfield Eastgardens only.

2) A PERSONAL STYLE AND SHOPPING SESSION
As detailed above, this is a great way to experience a stylist for the first time. I will personally host each. Rates for these sessions are:

Westfield Eastgardens – A special intro rate applies at Westfield Eastgardens – $160 for two hours and a deluxe 3 hour session for $240.

Westfield Sydney (Pitt St, Mall) and Westfield Bondi Junction – are fabulous premium shopping centres and rates are $300 for a 2 hour session, $400 for a 3 hour session and $500 for a 4 hour session.
